In
AEAD,
Education is a key factor for a sustainable
human development.
Education/Sponsorship
AEAD is convinced that education is a prerequisite in the development of communities within Burkina Faso. Indeed, education is the fundamental basis for the development of any country.
Thanks to the support of our partners, AEAD has, to date, been able to open 6 schools (2 nurseries, 2 primary schools and 2 colleges/secondary schools) 1 of each in Boulmiougou (Ouagadougou) and in Gourcy. There is currently a total of 846 children in attendance in all schools.
The nurseries
Since 1995, AEAD has operated a nursery in area 18, Boulmiougou district of Ouagadougou. There are currently a total of 82 children (school year 2006/07) in the nursery at Boulmiougou and a further 18 (school year 2006/07) in the nursery at Gourcy, a town located approximately 150 km to the north-west of Ouagadougou in the Zandoma Province. The nursery at Gourcy was established in 2002. Both nurseries train children from 3 to 6 years old.

The nurseries were established to promote the educational development of younger children.
The primary schools
Also in 1995, AEAD, opened a primary school at Boulmiougou, to train children from 7 to 12 years old. The school now trains 292 students (school year 2006/07).
With competent and qualified teachers at its disposal, AEAD's primary school succeeded in obtaining a 100% pass rate for CEPE (Certificat d'Etudes primaries Elementaires, formerly the school leaving certificate taken at the end of primary education) for four consecutive years.
More recently, a primary school was opened in Gourcy, which currently provides 58 primary places (school year 2006/07).
As a result of their remarkable success, several organisations, engaged in the fight against illiteracy, decided to provide financial support for the creation of a secondary school.
The
secondary school
AEAD opened its first secondary school, also located in Boulmiougou, not far from the primary school, in 2002. Latest figures (school year 2006/07) confirm 211 students in four classes. The school in Gourcy now also operates a secondary school, with 185 students in five classes (school year 2006/07). It is hoped that we will soon add a second floor to the Gourcy complex, to cope with the ever-increasing demand for secondary places there.
Sponsorship
Many families find it difficult to bear the financial cost for the schooling of their children. AEAD is currently reviewing its sponsorship policies, with a view to providing further sponsored places, in conjunction with our many national and overseas partners. The Future?
Building on the successes of these projects, AEAD wishes to extend its vision into other cities and villages within Burkina Faso. Thanks to the dedication and faithfulness of our partners and supporters, we are sure we can achieve our goals.
